Detroit Pistons and Wayne State University announce strategic fundraising partnership

Special group ticket offers for select Pistons’ games extended to Wayne State students, faculty, staff and alumni with 5% of proceeds from each ticket sold benefitting the institution’s HIGH Program

The Detroit Pistons and Wayne State University announced today a strategic fundraising partnership benefitting the institution’s HIGH Program (Helping Individuals Go Higher). Exclusive group ticket offers will be distributed to Wayne State students, faculty, staff and alumni for upcoming Pistons’ games at Little Caesars Arena featuring the Los Angeles Lakers (3/26), Washington Wizards (3/29) and Dallas Mavericks (4/6). Members of the Wayne State University family will receive specialized TicketMaster links and promo codes via e-mail with 5% of the proceeds for each ticket sold benefitting the HIGH Program.

The partnership will also extend to selected games throughout the 2018-19 NBA season. Wayne State students, faculty, staff and alumni present at each game will be welcomed on the Little Caesars Arena video board each game.

“We are pleased to partner with Wayne State University on a program that supports students’ ability to complete their education,” said Brad Lott, senior vice president of consumer sales for the Detroit Pistons. “We are also excited to provide a vehicle for the Wayne State University family to visit Little Caesars Arena and experience Detroit Basketball.”

Wayne State University’s HIGH Program — which stands for “Helping Individuals Go Higher” — is a year-round effort that depends on volunteers and donor support. Established in 2013 by Jacqueline Wilson, Wayne State’s first lady, the HIGH Program was developed to ensure that no student abandons their dream of earning a degree solely because of housing or financial challenges.

Designed to assist students in crisis who have exhausted all other funding options and for whom homelessness is imminent without intervention, the HIGH Program provides short-term bridge funding to enable a student in crisis to get back on track, focusing on filling a gap. Since the program’s founding, generous contributions have helped more than 200 students reach their dreams of graduation.

“We are thrilled that the Detroit Pistons have partnered with us in our effort to fulfill the HIGH Program’s mission of helping students in need,” said Wilson. “Through their discounted ticket program, Wayne State students experiencing financial distress will have an opportunity to move toward a rewarding future.”
