Wayne State University experts available to discuss the national and local effects of Superstorm Sandy

Wayne State University faculty members are available to discuss the challenges Superstorm Sandy brings to the East Coast and metro Detroit. Please contact Wayne State Public Relations at 313-577-2150 to arrange an interview. 

Mark Baskaran, professor of geology – Baskaran, a meteorologist, is available to discuss weather patterns, hurricane development and atmospheric pressure.

Carol Miller, professor of civil and environmental engineering – Miller is available to discuss water infrastructures, floods, dam safety, groundwater contamination and insurance issues.

Matt Seeger, professor and dean of the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts – Seeger, an expert in crisis communications, can discuss crisis and emergency communications.

Karen McDevitt, lecturer, College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts – McDevitt is an expert on social media and can discuss its impact on how information is used and disseminated in disaster situations.

Yifan Zhang, assistant professor of nutrition and food science – Zhang can comment on food-borne infectious bacteria and what happens to the food in your fridge during a power outage.
