WDET Honored With Awards From the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Michigan Associated Press

DETROIT - WDET has been recognized for broadcast excellence with four awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) and four awards from the Michigan Associated Press. These most recent awards, along with increases in audience and revenue, add to the excitement of WDET's continued growth in 2008.

From the MAB, the station won top honors in the Community Involvement category for its participation and sponsorship of the Story Corps Griot Project - an oral history project dedicated to collecting the stories of African-Americans for permanent archive at the Library of Congress.

WDET was also honored by the MAB with the following awards:

Mini-Documentary/Series - "Detroit 1967: A Turning Point" A special 13-part news series produced by WDET's news department on the 40th anniversary of Detroit's riot.
Special Programming - "Mother's Day Is Special" An hour-long special produced by WDET's Zac Rosen celebrating mothers and their special day.
Membership Appeals - "Year End Giving with Fred Grant, CPA" A series of on-air announcements with local CPA, WSU grad and WDET member Fred Grant, explaining the benefits of the Michigan Tax Credit when a gift is made to WDET before the end of the year.

The awards presented to WDET from the Michigan Associated Press:
Best Spot News - "General Motors Strike." Jerome Vaughn & Craig Fahle reporting.
Best News Documentary - "Detroit 1967: A Turning Point." A 13-part documentary series produced by the WDET News Department commemorating the 40th anniversary of Detroit's riot.
General Excellence Award (Honorable Mention) - WDET News Team.
Newscast (Honorable Mention) - Amy Miller, WDET Morning Edition host.
