Wayne State University welcomes noted author, former faculty member for book program

Wayne State will feature author Charles Baxter at its inaugural university Book Program on Tuesday, Sept. 10 as part of the Welcome Back Week activities.

Baxter will present a lecture on his novel "The Feast of Love," beginning at 4 p.m. at Wayne State's Bernath Auditorium in the Undergraduate Library. There will also be a book signing and reception. The lecture and book signing will be followed at 6 p.m. by faculty-led small group discussions about the book.

Baxter, a native of Minneapolis, is currently a professor and heads up the Master of Fine Arts Program in writing at the University of Michigan. He also taught English for several years at Wayne State. Among the works to his credit are three novels including: "Feast of Love," "Shadow Play" and "First Light." He also has written four collections of short stories, three collections of poems and a collection of essays on fiction. Baxter earned his bachelor's from Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minn., and a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

The Undergraduate Library, Dean of Students Office, Honors Program, Housing and Residential Life, and the Wayne State University Bookstore have all collaborated to sponsor the inaugural Book Program for Welcome Back Week.
